Behind the Name
The business name holds a lot of personal significance to our family. It was inspired by our two children – Kennedy (2013) and Mason (2014). The later child’s significance being less obvious than the first. We considered incorporating Mason's name into the business, but it just didn’t feel right. The name "Palmer" kept coming up due to Mason’s birth story.
Kennedy was born a year and a half prior to Mason at a different hospital. Just a few months after her birth, a dear friend experienced a tragedy at that same hospital where Kennedy was born. This made us aware that not all hospitals provide the same level of care. So, I switched to a different doctor that delivered at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida, with a reputation for comprehensive care. I had a healthy pregnancy with Mason until complications arose. I had a scheduled c-section, but I went into labor at 37.5 weeks. I ended up having a uterine rupture – an extremely rare and life-threatening situation that only 0.01% of moms and babies experience. We were fortunate to have the right medical team at the right time in the right hospital. The doctors told my husband, Ryan, that the next 1.5 hours were critical for both of us, with a 60% chance we wouldn't make it. Thanks to the amazing team of doctors and nurses we both survived that scary morning. We’ve become acutely aware that choosing Winnie Palmer Hospital saved both Mason's and my life. We thank God daily for our outcome and the blessings in our life.
Sadly, my dear friend, Noelle, had a different outcome. Her tragic experience forced
her daughter to be transported to another facility after birth due to complications, resulting in brain damage. Her daughter lived for three weeks and went home to be with Jesus on August 16, 2013.
In response to her experience, Noelle started a non-profit called The Finley Project. Please consider visiting their website to learn more or make a donation if you feel led.
